ABOUT RUN FOR WISHES

Headingley Fire Department held their first Run for Wishes in May of 2001.  Numbers of participants were small and we had just a few sponsors.  Over the past 20 years, our run has evolved and grown. We now host hundreds of runners and walkers and are now supported by over 40 sponsors.  We are generating about $20,000.00 every year and have been able to support The Children's Rehabilitation Foundation and Canadian Mental Health as well as numerous individuals who need support during difficult times in their lives over the course of the year.

Headingley Fire Department Run for Wishes is a sanctioned 5 km run, part of the Manitoba Runners Association run series that uses professional chip timing and a 3 km walk.  The scenic route takes you over and along the Assiniboine River and through residential South Headingley.  It starts and finishes at Headingley Fire Department and the event is followed by an awards ceremony and about 50 draw prizes.  This event is perfect for the elite runner to the casual walker and everyone in-between.

SPONSORS

We would like to thank our generous sponsors.

COVID-19

This year, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, our run/walk is going "virtual".  Run, walk, cycle, rollerblade or anything that's active, choose your own time to participate, do wherever you choose, take a picture of your achievement and tag @runforwishes2020 on Instagram.

That picture will be posted on a Headingley Fire Department Run for Wishes Instagram Site.  Every participant will be eligible for our prize draw.  Even though social distancing is keeping us apart, we can come together virtually to support some great causes.

IN SUPPORT OF

HOW THE RUN FOR WISHES IS HELPING OUR COMMUNITY

11-year-old Meerab loves taking bike rides through the hallways at school. Living with an intellectual disability, her days look a little different than most other students. A bike ride not only gives her the opportunity to exercise, it allows her to play alongside her 6th Grade classmates. Meerab has outgrown her current bike and needs a new one that provides her with additional balance and safety support. A new Freedom Concepts will give her just that, ensuring she can make her way joyfully through the hallways for years to come.
